Chitwan National Park |
| Once
the hunting grounds of the Nepalese royalty and nobility a vast
part of the Chitwan forest situated 120 km south- west of Kathmandu
were designated a National Park in 1973. The Royal Chitwan National
Park is one of the Nepal's largest forests regions and covers
an area of 967 sq kms of bush tropical forest grassland and
swamps. |

You
can wade through tall elephant grass shooting (with your
camera)! One of the unique sanctuary of the endangered
great one horned Rhinoceros and the majestic Royal Bengal
Tiger, the sloth bear, wild boars, leopards, several species
of crocodiles, deer, monkeys, water- dolphin and over
400 species of birds. Regularly air services to Bharatpur
and Tiger Tops are available. |

Elephant
back excursions canoe trips, jungle drive from Saurah to Kasara
and nature walks with knowledgeable guides are arranged to
view wild animals and jungle life during day time. A number
of lodges and cottages are available for comfortable accommodation.
At night one can sit by the campfire, sip a tiger's tail,
and watch tribal dances of the local Tharu, gaze at the stars
and experience life in the wild.
